Jimenez and Kluivert react to Hwang Hee-chan’s update amid Wolves exit whisper

Raul Jimenez and Justin Kluivert are among those that have reacted to a new update from Wolves striker Hwang Hee-chan amid rumours that he could soon depart the Molineux outfit.

Wolves struggled in the early parts of last season but their appointment of Vitor Pereira transformed the squad’s fortunes as he led them to an eventual 16th-placed finish, well away from the bottom three.

Hwang’s campaign, though, was one of struggle and a lack of game-time, as he scored just two goals in 25 appearances and was unable to follow up on his outstanding previous season that saw him bag 13 times in 31 games.

The South Korean international’s impressive 2023/24 form saw him linked to both Liverpool and Spurs in the January window, but 18 months on and he could be moving to a lesser club than Wolves in search of more minutes.

Hwang is one of five players that Wolves are reportedly looking to sell this summer, and he has been linked to a Championship side that the Molineux outfit have already dealt with in recent months.

Hwang posts Wolves training update

Reports in South Korea have linked Birmingham City with a move for Hwang this summer, yet according to BirminghamLive, while he is admired among Blues’ chiefs, their sources from both clubs have indicated that a deal for him to move to St. Andrews would not be financially viable.

He still seems likely to leave Wolves ahead of the new season, but has reported for pre-season training in recent weeks, as he took to Instagram on Tuesday (15 July) to share an update of him in action which was met with resounding reaction from his teammates and other footballers.

Former Wolves striker Jimenez and Hwang’s old teammate at RB Leipzig, Justin Kluivert, both liked his post, while Rodrigo Gomes replied with two heart-eyes emojis, Sasa Kalajdzic commented: “Bravo chaniiiii,” Marshall Munetsi said: “What a player” with three fire emojis and Yerson Mosquera added: “Well done” with two fire emojis.

Hwang could benefit from short-term Blues switch

Football Insider verdict

While he did lose his way somewhat last season at Wolves with just five league starts made all season, Hwang is clearly a good forward and one that may just need a bit more confidence and an arm around the shoulder in tough moments.

At 29-years-old he needs to find a club that are going to offer him starts each week, especially with the World Cup around the corner as he looks to continue adding to his 73 South Korea caps.

Hwang’s Wolves career stats

Birmingham are undoubtedly a club on the rise, with many tipping them to challenge for the play-offs in the Championship next season after they were promoted from League One with a record points total in English football.

Wolves have already sent Tommy Doyle on loan to St. Andrews, and Chris Davies already has a South Korean international on the books in star midfielder Paik Seung-ho, so both could help Hwang settle into his new surroundings.

Joining them on a short-term loan deal until January and likely going on a decent scoring run in the Championship would surely appeal to the 29-year-old, and he should jump at the chance if financials can be sorted out.
