Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink: This is why Leeds have dropped out of play-off positions
By Will Butcher
Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink believes Leeds have dropped out of the play-off positions because of the lack of support for striker Chris Wood.
Wood, 25, has been relied upon to score the goals that have seen Leeds remain in the top six since November, before they dropped out following Saturday’s 1-0 loss to Wolves.
Speaking to Sky Sports News’ Premier league Daily Show on Thursday morning [10am], the former Leeds goal machine called on the club’s’ other attackers to support the New Zealand international more.
Hasselbaink also revealed his desire to see his former club regain a place in the play-offs as he wants to see the Yorkshire giants return to the Premier League for the first time since 2004.
“They’re a magnificent club and I would love to seem them in the Premier League. Of late they haven’t got the form they did have or are scoring the goals that they were,” Hasselbaink said.

“I know Wood is scoring plenty of goals but the others haven’t chipped in. I hope they get back into the play-offs, but Fulham look very good and they have the best form.
“I really hope Leeds get back for the fans.”
Wood was named in the PFA’s Championship team of the year after scoring 28 goals in all competitions this season, with 25 of those coming in England’s second tier.
With three games to go, Leeds are level on points with sixth placed Fulham, while Sheffield Wednesday sit in fifth, two points ahead on 75 points.
The Whites go up against lowly Burton Albion on Saturday, and are believed to have an easier run-in compared to Fulham with Wigan and Norwich also to play.
Slavisa Jokanovic’s Cottagers face Huddersfield, Brentford and Sheffield Wednesday in their play-off run-in, which will give Leeds hope that they can regain a place in the top six.
Manager Garry Monk will be hoping his side can produce a repeat of the reverse fixture against the Brewers on Saturday, after goals from Wood and Souleymane Doukara earned a 2-0 win at Elland Road back in October.
