Joao Cancelo expected to commit long-term future to Man City after stance confirmed – pundit

Kevin Campbell has backed Joao Cancelo to commit his future to Man City for “a number of years.”

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Arsenal and Everton striker heaped praise on the 28-year-old who is “playing out of his skin” this season.

Cancelo signed a contract extension until the end of 2027 earlier this year.

Speaking to City Magazine, as quoted by the Manchester Evening News (1 November), the full-back revealed that he hopes to stay at the Etihad for “many more years.”

According to Mundo Deportivo last month (29 September), Real Madrid are considering a bid for the Cancelo next summer.

However, Fabrizio Romano revealed (31 October) that the Portugal international has no intention of leaving Man City.

When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of the latest, Campbell said: “Cancelo has been so consistent.

“He can play left-back, right-back and is almost a winger as well. He provides assists and goals. I am a big fan of his. He knows Pep Guardiola’s system inside out.

“He is playing out of his skin right now. You almost cannot fault his performances over the past couple of seasons.

Man City

“Why would he want to leave? It is not as if Man City do not have the money to bump up his wages. It is not as if he is playing for a team that is going to struggle. Man City are going to compete for every trophy for the next few years.

“As a club, they tick all of the boxes. I see Cancelo staying there for a number years.”
