Joao Cancelo has played last Man City game after Guardiola bust-up – sources
Man City don’t expect defender Joao Cancelo to play for the club again, sources have told Football Insider.
It is believed the 29-year-old does not want to return to the Etihad Stadium when his loan spell at Barcelona expires – and City do not want him back, either.
He joined the Catalan club on transfer deadline day last summer (2023) on a loan deal running until the end of the 2023-24 campaign.
His contract with the treble-winners runs until June 2027.
Cancelo has recently hit out at City in a scathing interview with Portuguese newspaper A Bola.
Cancelo has played last Man City game after new war of words
He accused manager Pep Guardiola of “telling lies” and insisted the club had been “ungrateful” to him after his success in Manchester.
The full-back originally left City on loan for Bayern Munich last January (2023) after a bust-up with Guardiola.
He fell down the pecking order at the Etihad Stadium in the 2022-23 campaign despite his huge part in the club’s success since his arrival from Juventus in 2019.
Cancelo has made 32 appearances across all competitions for Barcelona this term, notching four goals and four assists.

He has been cleared to return to action after a spell away from football for medical reasons.
The full-back made 154 appearances for Man City, notching nine goals and winning three Premier League titles.
