Joao Felix: ‘Huge’ Unai Emery update as Aston Villa work on deal
Aston Villa are in talks over a potential deal to sign Joao Felix from Atletico Madrid, sources have told Football Insider.
The attacking midfielder is a top target for Unai Emery, who is said to be a “huge” fan of the Spaniard.
Villa will face competition to sign the 24-year-old as other Premier League clubs are also keen on him.
Football Insider revealed that Emery wants to sign a “lethal” forward this summer to bolster his attacking options for next season.
Felix spent last season on loan at Barcelona where he played 44 games in all competitions, scoring 10 goals and providing six assists.
Felix is reported to prefer a return to the La Liga giants this summer, but Barcelona are not in a strong enough financial position to sign him.
Aston Villa will need £50million to sign Joao Felix
Sources claim that Atletico Madrid wants £50million for Felix, who is under contract with the Spanish outfit until 2029.
Felix has experience in the Premier League after his loan spell at Chelsea, where he scored four goals in 20 appearances for the club.
As Villa prepares for Champions League football next season, signing someone who has played at that level will be beneficial.
Felix has made 31 appearances in the European competition throughout his career, scoring 10 times.

Villa are also considering Crystal Palace’s Jean-Philippe Mateta as an attacking option, but the Eagles are unwilling to sell him.
