Joao Gomes sends message to Wolves fans as Vitor Pereira sack looms

Vitor Pereira is under immense pressure at Wolves after his side’s terrible start to the season continued on Sunday, October 26.

Wolves were beaten 3-2 by relegation rivals Burnley at Molineux to leave themselves rock bottom of the Premier League table and six adrift of safety.

Pereira rescued Wolves last season after replacing Gary O’Neil in December 2024, while creating a strong bond with supporters.

Fast forward to October 2025, and his relationship with the fanbase has soured, with the Portuguese boss threatening to lead the Old Gold to relegation.

Football Insider understands that Pereira could be sacked by Wolves before the international break by failing to win any of his next three matches in all competitions.

Joao Gomes sends message to Wolves fans after Burnley defeat

Emotions spilt onto the pitch during their defeat against the Clarets. Striker Jorgen Strand Larsen was involved in an altercation with Wolves fans, while the manager also exchanged fierce words with supporters.

Understandably, fans are frustrated after watching their team take just two points from a possible 27 in the Premier League and look nailed on for the drop.

Joao Gomes is someone who has always commanded respect from the fanbase, and after their loss to Burnley, the Brazilian addressed them with a message on X.

“We haven’t won a game in the Premier League for a long time, and you still fill the stadium every game, what can we tell you?,” Gomes said.

“90% of the fans of other teams would have already abandoned us, but you are still here and yours will continue. Just thank you, we promise to work hard and give our best.”

Gomes has become a pivotal figure at Wolves since joining the club from Flamengo in January 2023, and he would be one of several set to leave if relegation happens.

Wolves paying the price for embarrassing summer

Wolves have toyed with the idea of relegation for several campaigns. Penny pinching from Jeff Shi and Fosun has pushed them closer to the drop.

That is because the owners have constantly sold their best players without investing the funds properly into the squad.

In the summer transfer window, it was the sales of Rayan Ait-Nouri and Matheus Cunha that caused devastation, and unfortunately, the influential duo weren’t adequately replaced.

Cunha and Ait-Nouri brought in close to £100million alone from their transfer fees, while captain Nelson Semedo and winger Pablo Sarabia were crucial players last term.

Ultimately, Shi has destroyed Wolves with his self-sustaining model, and it could lead to relegation in 2025/26.
