Joao Pedro like Man City star as Sky Sports pundit stunned by Brighton ace

Michael Dawson was stunned by Joao Pedro’s Kevin de Bruyne-esque assist for Kaoru Mitoma in the 2-1 Brighton victory over Bournemouth.

Dawson was full of praise for the Brazilian’s contribution in as the Seagulls triumphed over the Cherries. Pedro, who had opened the scoring just four minutes into the game, was at it again in the 49th minute with an assist that left Dawson in awe.

Speaking on Sky Sports Soccer Saturday, the former Premier League defender said: “Bournemouth came out of the blocks quick, but Brighton, I said before, the front four — Georginio Rutter, Danny Welbeck, Joao Pedro, and Mitoma.

“The ball from Joao Pedro here is absolutely De Bruyne-esque. It’s unbelievable. It just cuts the defenders out.

“It’s in behind Adam Smith, and Mitoma comes in from the left. He just opens his body and then just puts it past Kepa—2-0 Brighton. What a goal because Brighton, in the final third, have been very good. Have they had loads of opportunities? No, but what they have been is clinical.”

Brighton can secure European football with a fully fit Joao Pedro

Football Insider Opinion

This victory has propelled the Seagulls into fifth place in the Premier League, level on points with both Chelsea and Arsenal who are above on goal difference. Fabian Hurzeler’s side are cementing their reputation as one of the most exciting teams in the league.

Albion’s pursuit of European football looks more achievable than ever, and much of that success hinges on the full fitness and form of Pedro. The Brazilian forward has been a revelation since joining from Watford, and his influence on the pitch is clear.

With his technical ability, vision, and knack for both scoring and assisting, the 23-year-old has the potential to elevate his side’s attacking play to new heights.

Kaoru Mitoma warming up for Brighton
Kaoru Mitoma scored for Brighton from Joao Pedro’s excellent assist.

Pedro’s debut Premier League season last year saw him score nine goals, and with 23 goals in 45 appearances for Brighton, he boasts an impressive record of a strike every two games. The forward already has six goal involvements in just six league appearances.

His ability to link up seamlessly with the rest of the squad has allowed him to thrive in Fabian Hurzeler’s tactical setup.

Whether it’s combining with wide players like Mitoma as he did against the Cherries or connecting with the midfield, Pedro’s awareness and vision help create dynamic attacking moves that break down even the toughest defences.
