Joe Bennett agrees Oxford United deal – sources
Oxford United defender Joe Bennett has agreed a new contract to remain at the club next season, sources have told Football Insider.
Bennett was set to be out of contract at the Kassam Stadium later this month, but Oxford have now secured the experienced left-back’s services on a new one-year deal.
The former England youth international joined Des Buckingham’s side on a free transfer in November and helped them win promotion to the Championship last season.
The 34-year-old made 22 appearances in all competitions during their promotion-winning campaign and his experience is expected to be vital as his side prepare for life in the second tier next season.

Bennett was earmarked as a promising talent for the future when he came through the ranks at Middlesbrough.
After making his professional debut in 2009, the defender went on to make 92 appearances for the Championship club before joining Aston Villa in 2012.
Despite spending four years at Villa Park, he only played 38 games for the West Midlands giants and eventually left for Cardiff City in 2016.
Bennett went on to feature 177 times during his five-year stint in south Wales before spending two seasons with Wigan Athletic.
After leaving the League One club last summer, Bennett eventually joined Oxford in November on a deal until the end of the season.
The left-back went on to start in 16 of his 22 appearances for the club, including being named in the starting lineup for all three of their play-off games.
Oxford recorded a 2-0 victory over Bolton in the final at Wembley to secure their place in the second tier for the first time in 25 years.
After Bennett played an integral role in the club’s successful promotion bid, the Englishman will remain at the Kassam Stadium until the end of next season after signing his new deal.
