Joe Hart reacts to Ederson’s Man City update after injury blow v Crystal Palace
Ederson has taken to social media with a brand-new update after being replaced during Man City’s 5-2 win over Crystal Palace and drawn a reaction from one of his predecessors.
Pep Guardiola’s side got off to a horrendous start at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday, 12 April, with Eberechi Eze and Chris Richards firing the visitors into a two-goal lead in 21 minutes.
Kevin De Bruyne, who will be leaving Man City this summer, scored a sensational free-kick before Omar Marmoush netted the equaliser, with Mateo Kovacic, James McAtee and Nico O’Reilly all getting on the scoresheet.
Despite Oliver Glasner‘s side being rather impressive in recent weeks, the Eagles had absolutely no answer away from Selhurst Park, even when the Citizens were forced into a change of goalkeepers.
After receiving treatment from the medics, Ederson was replaced by Stefan Ortega for the remaining 21 minutes of the game, and the shot-stopper seems to have shared an update from the changing rooms.
Ederson throws water on the fire after injury concerns emerge
Taking to Instagram (12 April), having left the pitch after 71 minutes, Ederson shared images from the match, simply captioned by a thumbs-up emoji.
Teammate Savinho responded to the post with a thumbs up, while Joe Hart, Ruben Dias, Josko Gvardiol and Ortega, his replacement, all liked the goalkeeper’s update.
Man City comeback win likely vital for Pep Guardiola’s future
Football Insider verdict
Guardiola is under immense pressure at Man City this season, with Champions League qualification no longer a guarantee, but it was certainly an important step in the right direction on Saturday.
Whether the Citizens finish in the top-five spots or not this season, there will need to be quite the squad overhaul once the summer transfer window opens, and Ederson could be one of the players departing.
Premier League standings | Points |
3. Nottingham Forest | 57 |
4. Man City | 55 |
5. Aston Villa | 54 |
6. Chelsea | 53 |
7. Newcastle United | 53 |
Football Insider understands that Ederson is open to leaving Man City for Saudi Arabia, with the 31-year-old’s current deal expiring in the summer of 2026.
Bernardo Silva, Jack Grealish, Matheus Nunes and Kovacic have all been tipped to end their spells with the reigning Premier League champions, but that could come at quite the cost at the end of the season.
The Citizens already splashed over £100million on the likes of Marmoush, Nico Gonzalez and Abdukodir Khusanov, but only more of the same will be needed to recreate the club’s previous achievements.
