Joe Hart reacts to Rodri announcement as Man City
Rodri’s latest announcement at Man City caught the attention of former star Joe Hart amid the Spaniard’s injury absence.
The 28-year-old has been sidelined since 22 September when he was replaced during the dramatic 2-2 draw with Arsenal, only to have suffered a season-ending cruciate ligament injury.
It was an utterly crushing blow for the 2024/25 campaign and Pep Guardiola, who has been under immense pressure from Man City fans, with the midfield often overrun without his presence.
Despite a frustrating season at the Etihad Stadium, the Citizens still have a chance of finishing second in the Premier League and could beat Crystal Palace to the FA Cup trophy on Saturday, 17 May.
While Rodri has been unavailable for the last eight months, the four-time Premier League winner and Ballon d’Or holder has been recognised for his achievements on the pitch.
Rodri earns a spot in FIFPRO’s XI
Taking to Instagram (15 May), the official club account wrote: “Congratulations, Rodri. In the FIFPRO World 11 for the first time,” earning the respect of former City star, Hart, who liked the post.
Florian Wirtz can join the Spaniard in the centre of Man City’s midfield
Football Insider verdict
Rodri is likely to command Man City’s midfield for the foreseeable future, especially given the downfall in performances since his crushing injury just a few games into the season.
However, he might be welcomed back into the squad by many new faces once the summer transfer window closes, with a complete overhaul expected ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

Kevin De Bruyne is set to leave Man City after a decade with the club, with John Stones, Ederson, Bernardo Silva, and Mateo Kovacic all being linked with exits, and new faces being tipped to replace them.
Of course, replacing one of the Premier League’s greatest ever playmakers will be no easy challenge, but Paul Robinson told Football Insider that Man City are in pole position for Florian Wirtz’s signature.
The German star has 16 goals and 14 assists in 44 appearances this season, becoming an incredible force in the Bundesliga, and he could be just one of several exciting signings over the coming weeks.
