Joe Hart ‘would love to stay’ at Celtic as new role mooted – McAvennie
Joe Hart would love to stay at Celtic beyond this summer after the possibility of a backroom role at the club was mooted.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Celtic striker Frank McAvennie insisted that the goalkeeper, 37, loves the club, but the decision would be up to Brendan Rodgers if he were to extend his stay.
Hart will retire after the Scottish Cup final following emotional scenes at Parkhead in the final league game, with fans calling for him to remain in Glasgow.
McAvennie insisted that Hart’s family are happy and have been treated well since his arrival, hinting that the goalkeeper could opt to take a new role at the club.
However, it was also suggested that he may want to take a step away, having spent the last three years at Parkhead.
Joe Hart future questioned after Celtic retirement
Following his decision to retire at the end of the season, Celtic fans have been exploring the keeper to stay for one more year, but while an on-pitch return looks unlikely, a backroom role has now been suggested.
McAvennie insisted that he would love to see Hart remain at Parkhead, but his future remains very much up in the air.
“I would love to see him stay, it feels as if he’s been here for eternity,” he told Football Insider when asked whether Hart could take up a background role.
“Maybe it’s time for him to have a change. I don’t know.
“He keeps talking about how he’d love to stay and all that, but I don’t know what the guy wants.
“He loves Celtic, he just loves everything about Celtic and he gets it.

“I would love to see him stay but that’s down to the manager. I think Joe would love to stay and his family would like to stay in Glasgow.
“The way he’s been treated and everything, that’s good.”
