Joe Rodon: Daniel Farke leaves Tottenham red-faced as Leeds face fierce transfer battle

Joe Rodon has been one of Leeds United‘s most standout players despite relegation fears growing at Elland Road.

When Leeds signed him for just £10million in the summer of 2024, following a season-long loan in West Yorkshire, a few heads were turned, purely because of the price tag.

Daniel Farke’s side were also one of the favourites to be relegated from the Premier League after winning promotion to the Championship. While that is still possible, there is hope of securing safety.

Although Leeds’ future transfer plans will depend largely on their league status for the 2026-27 campaign, there is absolutely no way that the Whites would want to lose Rodon in the summer.

Leeds United to face uphill battle to keep Joe Rodon

However, there is a growing fear that the 28-year-old centre-back could earn a move away from Elland Road in a few months, having experienced such a successful season in the centre of defence.

Mick Brown revealed to Football Insider that Premier League clubs are weighing up a move for Rodon, with the centre-half not only rock-solid in his own penalty area, but also a threat in the other.

He has scored twice for the Whites this season, against Bournemouth and West Ham, while also notching his first two goals for the Wales national team.

Had Craig Bellamy’s side have qualified for the 2026 World Cup, his price tag might have skyrocketed even further ahead of the summer, but it was not to be for the Red Dragons.

Tottenham surely regret letting Welshman go so easily

The defender’s form this season raises even more questions over Tottenham’s treatment of him between 2020 and 2024.

After spending £11million on the former Swansea City man, he was barely even looked at during his time in North London, being sent out on loan to Rennes and Leeds.

Those at Elland Road clearly appreciated his talents a lot more than the Premier League giants, who were happy to throw him into their deal for Archie Gray in the summer of 2024.

Nobody is saying that Gray isn’t an exciting talent.

But the treatment of Rodon was completely baffling, especially given Spurs’ defensive problems, and Leeds are now benefitting from their incompetence in the transfer market.
