Joe Rodon: Leeds plan to block major exits as they eye ‘exciting’ signing

Joe Rodon is one of a number of key players who Leeds United are aiming to build their squad around ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Elland Road chiefs have already begun preparing for the window as they have placed themselves in a strong position to secure Premier League survival as things stand.

As a result, Leeds are keen to ass more star quality to their starting XI to establish themselves in the top flight, with a focus also on keeping their best players.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Leeds plan to keep hold of Rodon while adding “exciting” talents to their squad.

Daniel Farke is keen to bolster his side during the summer window as they aim to avoid a relegation scrap next season, with Leeds set to accelerate their transfer plans.

Which star names do Leeds United plan to build around?

Brown told Football Insider last month that Leeds have ambitious transfer plans to build around their star players including Ethan Ampadu and now Rodon.

The Welsh international duo have established themselves as key cogs in Farke’s plans and there is no desire to see either of them leave any time soon.

With Rodon now likely to remain at Elland Road, efforts are being made to strengthen in other key areas including the additions of a new striker and goalkeeper.

“Leeds want to keep hold of their best players first and foremost,” Brown told Football Insider.

“That has to be their priority because if you want to keep improving and making progress, you have to make sure you’re not weakening your squad.

“That includes Joe Rodon, for example, who has been brilliant for Leeds this season.

“Then, going into the summer window, they want to add new additions to the side to build around those players and add more exciting quality to the side.

“Leeds know they need to improve if they want to stay in the Premier League, but they can’t go out and just spend millions on players who don’t improve them.

“They need to be clever with their moves and bring in quality players who will add something to the team in positions they need most.”

Leeds’ transfer plan for Joe Rodon revealed

The quality of the centre-back’s performances in the Premier League have attracted interest from a number of suitors ahead of the summer window.

However, Brown told Football Insider that Leeds will block offers for Rodon and have no plans to let him leave despite growing interest in his signature.

The 28-year-old has enjoyed an impressive season at the heart of Farke’s defence and has been a key influence in Leeds’ push to survive the relegation battle.

However, those performances are believed to have attracted an initial interest in the Wales international, with clubs keeping a close eye on his displays.

Farke is determined to keep his best players at the club and build around them this summer, with long-term ambitions in mind, and Rodon remains key.
