Joe Rodon: Leeds’ Premier League rivals line up move for Wales star

Joe Rodon is attracting interest from a number of Premier League clubs ahead of the summer transfer window, but Leeds United are confident he will stay.

The 28-year-old has enjoyed an impressive season at the heart of Daniel Farke’s defence and has been a key influence in Leeds’ push to survive the relegation battle.

However, those performances are believed to have attracted an initial interest in the Wales international, with clubs keeping a close eye on his displays.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that should Leeds remain in the Premier League, they have no concerns about losing Rodon.

Farke is determined to keep his best players at the club and build around them this summer, with long-term ambitions in mind as Leeds step up their transfer plans.

Could Leeds lose Joe Rodon this summer?

Football Insider revealed last year that Leeds are happy with Rodon and viewed him as one of just six Premier-League-ready players in their squad upon promotion.

His performances so far this season have backed up their belief in his talents, but rival clubs are keeping a close eye in case Leeds are dragged into the relegation scrap.

With his side currently sitting four points clear of the relegation zone, Farke is confident of survival this season and believes it will boost their chances of retaining players.

“Joe Rodon has been outstanding for Leeds,” Brown told Football Insider.

“When he made the move from Tottenham, you were looking at him waiting for him to prove himself, and he did that in the Championship.

“The next question was whether he could do it in the Premier League, and I must admit I had my doubts, but he’s been a crucial part of their team this season.

“The problem then is, when you perform at a high level in the Premier League and for Wales, a lot of rival clubs start sniffing around and there are a few looking at Rodon.

“But I don’t think it’s a major concern for Leeds, by all accounts he’s happy there and he’s playing well so they’re not going to want to let him go.

“If they stay up come the end of the season, Leeds are confident they can keep hold of Rodon and all of their best players and they want to build around them.

“Obviously Premier League clubs will be interested, it’s just the way these things work, but I don’t think there’s anybody out there now who will make a big move.

“So from a Leeds point of view, I don’t expect to see any movement there.”

Which clubs could make a move to sign Rodon?

A number of Premier League clubs are believed to be keeping tabs on Rodon, with defensive issues becoming a concern among some of the top sides.

Aston Villa could be on the lookout for a new centre-back in the summer, as Football Insider reported that Pau Torres could leave Villa Park.

Liverpool are another top side looking for defensive reinforcements, and while a move for Rodon would be a surprise, his displays will have put him on their radar.

Further down the table, Crystal Palace are in need of a new centre-back after Marc Guehi joined Man City in January, while there are doubts over Maxence Larcoix’s future.

Leeds are likely to face plenty of competition in their efforts to keep the Wales international regardless of whether they stay up, but believe they can deter his suitors.
