Rangers coach Jonatan Johansson was blown away by three of Rangers’ young midfielders as they eased past Berwick 4-0 on Wednesday night.
Cammy Palmer, Serge Atakayi and Jordan Thompson were all singled out for praise by the Ibrox coach after they shone in Berwick star Steven Notman’s testimonial at Shielfield Park.
Goals from David Bates, Aaron Nemane, Atakayi and Thompson sealed the win for the Gers as they used the opportunity to give a number of fringe first-team players a run out.
Eduardo Herrera, Dalcio, Fabio Cardoso, Lee Hodson and Nemane all played at least an hour against the League Two side.
Johansson thought the Light Blues played well and revealed that two of the goalscorers impressed him alongside central midfielder Cammy Palmer.
“There were some really good performances, I hate picking players out because there were some really good displays,” Johansson said, as quoted by the club’s official website.
“I spoke about Cammy Palmer last week and he continued that form this week, I think he has a really good understanding of the game.
“Young Serge, who I know from Finland, played really well in the second-half and he took his goal really well.
“Jordan Thompson was great tonight too and scored a brilliant goal”
The Gers return to competitive action on Saturday when they face Hamilton at Ibrox in the Scottish Premiership.
Graeme Murty will continue to take the reins as the Ibrox board step up their search for a permanent successor to Pedro Caixinha three weeks after he was sacked.
If the Light Blues can win it will be the first time since December 2016 that they will have recorded three successive victories.
The 54-times Scottish champions currently sit fourth in the Scottish Premiership and trail leaders Celtic by six points.
