Aldridge: This PL strike duo can help get Liverpool in the Champions League (not Coutinho or Sturridge)

By Aramide Oladipo

Liverpool legend John Aldridge believes that Tottenham striker Harry Kane and Everton forward Romelu Lukaku can play a huge part in helping Liverpool qualify for the Champions League next season.

Merseyside rivals Everton play Arsenal in the last game of the season at the Emirates and Aldridge admits he’s looking for help from an unusual place on Sunday.

Lukaku is currently the leading Premier League marksman this season with a total of 24 goals, his best ever tally during his time in England.

It’s been a record-breaking season for the 24-year-old Belgian who has not only become the first Everton player to score more than 20 goals in a single league season, but also the leading Premier League goalscorer in Everton’s history.

Kane is right behind Lukaku after notching up 22 league goals this season for Spurs, and he’s only three behind his personal best tally in the Premier League.

The 23-year-old England international has been a revelation since breaking onto the scene in 2014 as he has now scored 20 Premier League goals or more for the third consecutive season.

In his column for the Liverpool Echo, Aldridge hopes that the two strikers can get on the scoresheet once again as he believes it will help Liverpool’s chances of finishing in the top four.

“I want Kane to get a brace at Leicester. If he does, then Lukaku will be desperate to get that Golden Boot, and will hopefully turn on the style at The Emirates,” he said

“Liverpool need to look after their own business first and foremost of course, but it’d be nice to hear of a few Everton goals on Sunday.”

“And I never thought I’d hear myself say that!”

Regardless of Arsenal’s result against Everton on the final day of the season, Liverpool will be guaranteed a place in the Champions League with a win over Middlesborough.
