John Eustace to West Brom: Sky Sports comms share live Blackburn exit update

Blackburn Rovers have issued an “adamant” update on manager John Eustace amid links to the vacancy at West Brom, Sky Sports commentator Gary Weaver has said.

The Baggies are currently searching for a new boss following the departure of Carlos Corberan to Valencia late last month, after previous links with Wolves and Southampton.

Swansea boss Luke Williams has already had to respond after being linked with the job, and Eustace is one name that has been touted to take over at The Hawthorns (talkSPORT, 1 January, 13:13).

Currently, it seems that West Brom are yet to make a move to try and poach him from their Championship rivals.

Speaking about the Blackburn manager while commentating on their 1-0 loss to Burnley on Saturday (4 January) on Sky Sports (12:58), Weaver said: “He has been linked with other jobs elsewhere which Blackburn Rovers are aware of. He is right now being linked with a job back in the West Midlands at West Bromwich Albion but Blackburn Rovers say as of before kick-off here no approaches have been made.

“But they do know that the more John Eustace gets the best out of this team those rumours will get stronger.”

Blackburn Rovers will not want to lose John Eustace to West Brom

Eustace has done an excellent job since he took charge at Ewood Park back in February last year replacing Jon Dahl Tomasson.

Having managed to save Blackburn from relegation last season, he now has them competing alongside the likes of West Brom for a place in the Championship play-offs.

West Brom
Carlos Corberan will be tough to replace for the Baggies

It would therefore represent a blow for them to lose a head coach who does seem to have got them moving back in the right direction again.

By that same extent, it could also be a useful appointment for the Baggies, if they do get someone who has proven he can get teams to compete for a top six spot.

West Brom though would have to pay compensation given Eustace is under contract at Blackburn which is another aspect they will have to consider.

Indeed they will no doubt have other options they are weighing up as well and those at Ewood Park will hope it is one of those they go for instead.

In other news, Everton are plotting to sign a West Brom player in the January transfer window.
