John Hartson makes bold claim about Arsenal

By Amir Mir

John Hartson has boldly claimed that Arsenal can still lift the Premier League title in May, despite being nine points off leaders Chelsea.

Antonio Conte’s men top the league table going into the New Year after recording a club record 12th consecutive victory when they beat Bournemouth 3-0 on Boxing Day.

At the same time, the Gunners narrowly beat Tony Pulis’ West Brom at the Emirates, with Olivier Giroud netting the only goal of the game to secure a much-needed three points.

This follows their 2-1 defeat at Manchester City, prior to the festive period, where they capitulated in the second half to concede two goals against their title rivals.

Former Celtic striker Hartson shared his views on Arsene Wenger’s side as posted by BT Sports official Twitter account.

” I do [think they can win the Premier League],” Hartson told BT Sport. “There is a danger of Chelsea running away with it, that’s the case for Liverpool, Manchester United and I genuinely do.

“I think Arsene Wenger thinks the same.”

Wenger celebrated 20 years at the north London club this season, but the Frenchman has been unable to lead them to the league title in 12 years.

This has resulted in certain sections of Arsenal supporters losing faith in their manager, who had previously masterminded the ‘Invincibles’ of the 2003/04 season.

Nonetheless, they currently sit in fourth place on 37 points from 18 league games, two behind Manchester City in second and nine behind the leaders.

Wenger did guide his team to a thumping 3-0 against Conte’s men earlier on in the campaign, but their London rivals have since gone on a winning streak.

The Gunners will now host Sam Allardyce’s Crystal Palace in the New Year as they will look to start off 2017 with three points.
