John Terry takes swipe at James Maddison after ‘full-kit’ taunt and Roy Keane dig

John Terry delivered a humorous dig towards James Maddison after Tottenham’s long-awaited Europa League triumph.

Tottenham broke their trophy drought after a tense 1-0 victory over Man United in the Europa League final on 21 May.

Maddison was ruled out of the final due to injury but joined his teammates on the pitch during the trophy lift, soaking in the moment after helping Spurs reach their first piece of silverware in 17 years.

In typical Maddison fashion, he had a few words to share — including a playful jab at pundit Roy Keane during CBS Sports’ coverage.

Maddison had previously fired back at Keane earlier in the season after scoring against United, and he didn’t miss the opportunity to do so again.

But it wasn’t just Keane on the receiving end this time. Maddison also aimed a light-hearted message at Chelsea legend John Terry.

John Terry clashes with James Maddison after full-kit Europa League celebration

Maddison arrived at the final suited up, but during the trophy celebrations he made time to change into full kit for the lift — drawing inevitable comparisons to John Terry, who famously did the same after Chelsea’s Champions League triumph in 2012 while suspended.

The Spurs midfielder shared a cheeky post on his Instagram story with the caption: “To kit. Full [John Terry] mode. Anything to say?”

Terry replied with a humorous Instagram story of his own: “I remember my first trophy. Ah bless them.”

He continued: “Get the tequila out. Great season from you boys, you should all be proud! 16 to go… After that performance I think you have a chance. You just have to live for 900 years.”

The former Chelsea captain then shared a video of his extensive trophy collection in another Instagram story, a playful jab to keep the banter going.

Despite this, Maddison appeared in good spirits and looks set to continue celebrating Tottenham’s historic Europa League victory in style.

Missing the final was a cruel blow for the 28-year-old, who had become an increasingly important player during the season.

Frustrated Spurs fans had voiced their concerns over Maddison due to his recurring injury setbacks, with some even calling for the midfielder to be sold.

However, his contribution throughout the knockout stages, including goals in both the quarter-finals and semi-finals, underlined his value to the squad.

While he wasn’t able to feature in the showpiece itself, Maddison hasn’t shied away from addressing the criticism aimed at both him and the team throughout the campaign. With silverware now secured, he seems determined to enjoy the moment and remind doubters of his impact.
