John Textor could be in trouble after Everton deal agreed – Stefan Borson

John Textor can expect to face questions after Orel Mangala has joined Everton on a season-long loan deal from Lyon.

That is the view of finance expert Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider people are going to talk about the French side doing business with a club the American is currently trying to buy.

Textor has entered a period of exclusivity to buy Everton owner Farhad Moshiri’s 94.1-per-cent stake at Goodison Park.

Lyon are one of four teams Textor’s company Eagle Football Holdings owns shares in, with majority stakes in Brazilian first division outfit Botafogo and Belgian side RWD Molenbeek to go alongside its minority share in Crystal Palace.

Everton have now loaned Mangala from Lyon for the rest of the season, raising questions about how the deal was conducted after he only joined the French club on a permanent transfer from Nottingham Forest in July.

Orel Mangala deal makes sense due to Everton financial situation

Borson suggested people will join the dots and ask questions of Textor about the deal.

“It’s very hard to understand what’s happened at Lyon this summer,” Borson told Football Insider.

“They bought multiple players around their year-end.

“They bought Mangala himself, but they also bought Niakhate from Forest for a very sizeable fee as well.

“But clearly, people are going to talk if John Textor is doing deals with Everton while being openly in the bidding process to acquire the club.

“He can’t expect people not to join those dots and question what’s going on there.

“It makes sense for Everton to loan a player of his quality given their financial situation.

“But Textor can expect some questions given the connection that’s now been made.”
