Kodjia responds on Twitter to criticism from Aston Villa legend McGrath
By Matt Farr
Aston Villa striker Jonathan Kodjia has issued a humble Twitter response to criticism from club legend Paul McGrath.
The former Villa defender slammed the 27-year-old for his work-rate during Aston Villa’s 2-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest on Saturday, but has since apologised for his outburst.
McGrath admitted he was wrong to take out his frustrations at Villa’s current position in the Championship solely on Kodjia, who has been one of the stand-out performers for the club this season.
But the Ivory Coast international revealed on his personal Twitter account on Monday that there was no need for McGrath to apologise, insisting that he had a right to express his opinion as a “legend” of the club.
Kodjia also appeared to take McGrath’s criticism on board, as he even admitted “there are still many aspects of my game I have to work on”.
McGrath made 323 appearances for the Midlands club during his professional career, scoring 10 goals.
Kodjia has netted 10 goals for Aston Villa this season, with his consolation goal against Nottingham Forest his first strike since returning from international duty at the African Cup of Nations.
Villa managed to score just two goals during Kodjia’s four-game absence, and were perhaps thankful that the Ivory Coast did not progress any further than the group-stage of the competition.
