Jordan Henderson and Virgil van Dijk react as Ibrahima Konate makes Liverpool promise
Ibrahima Konate’s future at Liverpool remains in the balance, and his latest message on social media has caught the attention of Virgil van Dijk and Jordan Henderson.
The centre-back has played 30 times in the Premier League for the Reds this season, as Arne Slot’s side wrapped up the title with four games to spare.
Back in 2021, the Frenchman made the switch to Merseyside from German side RB Leipzig, and after a couple of campaigns hampered by injury, has really found his feet this year.
However, Konate is being tracked by Real Madrid, as the defender is yet to sign a new contract at Anfield and his current deal runs out next summer.

Konate contract saga rumbles on
Football Insider exclusively revealed last month (14 April) that an agreement of a new contract with Ibrahima Konate is Liverpool’s top priority ahead of the summer window.
Virgil van Dijk and Mo Salah were in similar positions to the France international, but the pair both signed new deals in April.
With the contract saga continuing, Konate took to social media to send a message to Liverpool fans, ahead of their final game of the season.
The centre-back posted a photo enjoying some sun with Van Dijk, with the caption: “THE LAST ONE IS GOOD, BUT SUNDAY WILL BE BETTER.”
Slot’s side face Crystal Palace at Anfield on Sunday, where they will be presented with the trophy after the game.
Van Dijk liked the post, as well as former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson, who was the last Reds player to lift the Premier League trophy.
Liverpool must avoid repeat of Alexander-Arnold saga
Football Insider Verdict
Liverpool have to get the contract situation with Konate sorted before it becomes a real issue, and the defender begins negotiating with other teams.
Trent Alexander-Arnold’s move to Real Madrid on a free was the worst possible outcome for the Merseyside club, and they must ensure that it is not repeated.
Name | Price | Team |
Trent Alexander Arnold (TBC) | Free | Liverpool |
Dean Huijsen | £50m | Bournemouth |
Kylian Mbappe | Free | PSG |
At the age of 25, Konate could be at the heart of Liverpool’s defence for the next half a decade, and they don’t want to lose that kind of stability at the back.
Real Madrid recently confirmed the signing of Dean Huijsen from Bournemouth, which was further proof that Los Blancos have the ultimate pull in world football.
If Slot and Liverpool don’t secure Konate quickly, he could be tempted by a move to the Spanish capital.
