Jose Mourinho to Wolves? Insider shares ‘huge’ update today

Wolves are not considering Jose Mourinho as a potential option to take over as their new manager following Gary O’Neil’s departure.

This is according to former Man United and Tottenham scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the 61-year-old would not be keen on the job even if it was offered.

Football Insider revealed on Friday 13 December that O’Neil had been given the Ipswich fixture to try and save his job, but after the 2-1 loss the club opted to part ways.

Prior to his dismissal, however, reports in Turkey claimed Wolves had made a £5million offer to Fenerhahce to bring Mourinho back to the Premier League.

This comes after the legendary former Chelsea boss stated: “A club at the bottom in England who needs a coach in two years, I’m ready to go,” hinting at a return to English football.

Since then, he has been heavily linked with both Newcastle United and West Ham, but both Eddie Howe and Julen Lopetegui have remained in their roles.

Brown has now rubbished the Wolves links as “nonsense”, insisting he is “hugely doubtful” that the manager has even entered the discussions at Molineux.

Wolves not considering Jose Mourinho appointment despite reports

Brown previously told Football Insider that Mourinho was “advertising his availability” and had opened the door to a return to the Premier League.

Now, the former scout who has a wealth of experience working closely with managers at the top level including the likes of Sir Alex Ferguson and Ron Atkinson, insisted that Wolves would lack the financial muscle to pull off Mourinho’s appointment.

I think that’s just media nonsense,” he told Football Insider.

“I’m hugely doubtful Wolves will have even considered him as an option, to be honest.

“I don’t think Jose Mourinho would fancy it anyway, despite what he’s been saying.

“I know he made the comments about going back to a lower club in the Premier League, but that’s how he is, he says these things and winds people up a bit.

“You have to consider the financial side of it as well, they’d have to pay compensation and then he’d expect backing in the transfer market.

Wolves

“So even if we say they were considering offering him the job, why would he take it?

“No, that strikes me as a bit of a non-story, honestly.”

In other news, Wolves are “confident” of appointing Vitor Pereira.
