Jose Mourinho would be a ‘real coup’ for Everton after source’s reveal

Jose Mourinho has been linked with the Everton managerial position and is being seen as a “real coup” if the Merseyside club can convince him to join.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, former Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson believes it would be positive to sign a manager “of that quality.”

Football Insider revealed that the former Chelsea, Man United, and Inter Milan boss is a “strong option” to take over from Sean Dyche once Dan Friedkin completes his takeover of the club.

The 61-year-old may have only just taken charge of Fenebache in the summer, but sources have told Football Insider “Don’t rule Jose out.”

Dyche is under pressure at Goodison Park after winning only one game this season, leaving the club 16th in the Premier League table.

Jose Mourinho could be a ‘real coup’ for Everton to secure

Even though Mourinho is one of the most successful managers in terms of winning trophies, Robinson believes Everton’s current goal is better suited to Dyche.

“For the club that would be a coup, a real coup to get a manager of that quality,” Robinson told Football Insider.

“But you look at the list this morning, David Moyes, [Graham] Potter, [Gareth] Southgate, they’re the type of people that linked with the manager’s job.

“The biggest thing for Everton this season is to stay in the Premier League.

“It’s vitally, vitally important that Everton go into the new stadium next season with Premier League football, a manager like Sean Dyche is going to secure you that.

“It might not be pretty, might not be the best football you’ll watch all season, but he will guarantee you that, he will give you the best chance of doing that.

“If the owner wants to go in a different direction and inject some cash in January.

“The problem that you’ve got is if a new owner comes in and injects a load of cash with a new manager in January and tries to change the direction of the club too quickly, it could go wrong very quickly as well as it could go right.

“So, stability and slow progression will be the one forever, and keeping in the Premier League is important.”
