Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho

Alex Bruce believes that Jose Mourinho will be “delighted” that Tottenham have signed Joe Hart on a free transfer.

The former Premier League defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, insists that the England international will have plenty to offer Spurs as a backup option between the sticks.

Tottenham confirmed on Tuesday that the 32-year-old had put pen to paper on a two-year deal as he follows £15m Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and £500,000 Alfie Devine to north London in their third summer signing.

Spurs let Michel Vorm leave at the end of his contract this summer to leave Mourinho with Hugo Lloris and Paulo Gazzaniga as his senior goalkeeper options.

Bruce believes that Hart is a smart signing for Tottenham and insists that the Portuguese manager will be very happy to get the deal done.

Bruce told Football Insider: “I do think it’s good business. Joe’s had his ups and downs, he’s been hammered but over the course of his career he’s been a bloody good goalkeeper as well.

“The fact he’s got a move to Tottenham is great for him. It will bring added cover in the goalkeeper areas for Spurs and Jose’s delighted to get him in.”

Hart, who won two Premier League titles with Manchester City and made 75 appearances for England, featured just three times for Burnley last season as he found himself behind Nick Pope in the pecking order.

He left the Clarets after playing just 24 games during a two-year spell at Turf Moor.

In other Tottenham news, it can be revealed that the Lilywhites have accepted a seven-figure bid for one of their players.
