Josh Sargent can be a brilliant Georginio Rutter replacement at Leeds – pundit
Leeds United can unlock an important attacking spark if they bring in Josh Sargent from Norwich City, according to Alan Hutton.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Premier League defender says Sargent can bring a different quality to Leeds that they missed at times last season, as Daniel Farke’s side missed out on an immediate return to the Premier League.
Sargent, 24, is currently away with the USMNT for the Copa America, before returning to pre-season training.
The American – who has scored 33 goals in 100 appearances so far for Norwich – has worked at Carrow Road with Farke in the past and it was reported by Football Insider last August that the German had explored the possibility of a reunion with Sargent.
Sargent signed a contract during last season with the Canaries until 2028, and would subsequently cost Leeds around £8m – which may be spared if the club can get players off the books early this summer.
Leeds United can address missing piece with Sargent, says Hutton
Leeds United are expecting a significant change to their squad to take shape throughout the coming months, and Hutton believes the missing piece of the team’s attacking dynamic can be filled by signing Sargent.
“[That presence up front] is what Leeds have been missing at times with Patrick Bamford injured,” he said.
“I’ve always thought they needed someone to come in and help out.
“Sargent is a guy who knows the league, knows the manager, he’s very robust and can last the length of a season.
“They do need options, but the big thing for Leeds as well is who will be leaving.

“Is Rutter going to go, Summerville? Gnonto? If you’re making a charge for it next year, those players need replacing.
“Time will tell whether Sargent would be as prolific as you need him to.”
