Josh Tymon: Rangers backed to complete transfer after source’s update
Noel Whelan has insisted “it makes sense” for Rangers to scour the Championship for potential signings after making an approach for Stoke City defender Josh Tymon.
The former Leeds and Aberdeen striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 23-year-old could be “ready-made” for the Scottish Premiership thanks to his experience in England’s second tier.
A Rangers source told this site on Tuesday (7 June) that the club have made an enquiry about signing Tymon in the summer window.

A move for the former Hull City man comes amid interest in Gers left-backs Calvin Bassey and Borna Barisic.
The left-back played almost every minute for Stoke City across 48 appearances during their 2021-22 campaign.
He is contracted until June 2025 after signing a fresh extension in November 2021.
Whelan insisted Rangers are right to look to the Championship for new faces over the Premier League.
“Financially it makes sense for them to go to the Championship rather than the Premier League,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.
“Even it’s a player who doesn’t play regularly, it’s a bigger price tag for players in the Premier League.
“When you go to the Championship – you’re looking at players who are ready-made. They’ve played a lot of minutes already, and they’ve shown they can deal with the pressures of playing a lot of games.
“You’ve got to be a lot more robust in Scotland. There aren’t many teams who can play like Rangers and Celtic.

“All that being said, Rangers will also be looking for players who have the quality to shine through.
“The Championship provides that.”
