Joshua Zirkzee transfer: Notable players to feature for both Man United and West Ham

Joshua Zirkzee could join a list of esteemed and accomplished footballers as West Ham already look to bolster their attack in January.

Football Insider understands that West Ham are interested in signing Zirkzee once the next transfer window rolls around, with the striker set for a surprise exit at Man United.

The Dutchman has seriously struggled in England since his £36.5million move from Bologna two summers ago, notching just seven goals in 53 appearances, despite United being in desperate need of a centre-forward.

Man United signed Benjamin Sesko, which significantly reduced the chances of the 24-year-old breaking back into the starting lineup at Old Trafford, so it is understandable if he wants an exit plan ready.

The likes of Ravel Morrison and Luke Chadwick have played for both Man United and West Ham, and following the recent transfer news, here is a list of the most notable players to do the same.

Rio Ferdinand

Rio Ferdinand came through the Hammers’ academy before finally being made club captain. He went on to make 158 appearances between 1996 and 2000, eventually joining Leeds United for a then-British record fee.

He played alongside the likes of Frank Lampard, Joe Cole, and Michael Carrick, all of whom went on to be incredible Premier League legends. Not too shabby for the West Ham academy.

Carlos Tevez

Carlos Tevez played for three different Premier League clubs: West Ham, Man United, and Man City. He was by far the most successful at the latter, but he was not forgotten for his short spell in East London.

The Argentine made 26 appearances during his single season with the Irons, hitting the back of the net seven times before joining the Red Devils for £32million, which was also a British record at the time.

Paul Ince

Battling away in the middle of West Ham’s midfield between 1986 and 1989, Paul Ince made the controversial switch to the Theatre of Dreams, where he went on to win two Premier League titles.

He had made just 89 first-team appearances after graduating from the academy, but in that time, he did score 11 goals, with two of those coming in a famous win over Liverpool.

Javier Hernandez (Chicharito)

Javier Hernandez was one of West Ham’s brightest strikers in recent years, scoring 17 goals in 63 appearances, but he lasted just two full seasons in East London before leaving for Spain.

Before that, he experienced four full campaigns with the Red Devils. Chicharito notched 59 goals and 16 assists in 157 appearances, and remains a much-loved figure amongst both sets of fans.

Michael Carrick

A Premier League legend. Having come through the academy and made over 100 appearances for the Hammers, Carrick eventually signed for Man United in 2006.

He went on to win every single major club trophy, totting up 464 appearances before retiring from the sport and heading into coaching. Carrick has now been tipped to replace Ruben Amorim.

Teddy Sheringham

Three-time Premier League winner. Champions League winner. FA Cup winner. Teddy Sheringham is an absolute legend of the game and is another player who featured for both clubs.

Following four years with the Red Devils, he went on to feature for West Ham between 2004 and 2007, helping the club to secure promotion back to the Premier League and reach the FA Cup final.
