Journalist: Newcastle handed major boost over imminent deadline day loan swoop
Newcastle United may not have to wait too long before welcoming Leicester City striker Islam Slimani into the first team set up with an injury blow not as bad as feared, according to a journalist.
The Daily Mail’s Craig Hope has claimed on his personal Twitter account that the Algerian international, who is reportedly set to secure a loan move to the Magpies imminently after a deal was agreed between the two clubs, that there were concerns over a thigh injury suffered by the 29-year-old, which were set to rule him out of action.
I'm told the thigh injury picked up by Islam Slimani this week is not as serious as first reported & there is outside chance he could make NUFC bench at Crystal Palace this weekend, although home match v Man Utd a week Sunday more likely.

However the club have been handed a major boost, with Hope claiming that the injury is only minor and may not rule him out of contention for any games, with a place on the substitutes’ bench against Crystal Palace on Sunday a possibility.
Football Insider verdict
Only Newcastle could end up signing a player who is already injured, so it will be music to both Rafael Benitez and the fans’ ears that the blow does not seem to be a serious one. The Magpies are in desperate need of additional firepower up front and the sooner they have Slimani in the starting XI, the better. Is he the striker to hit home the goals to secure the club’s Premier League safety? Only time will tell, but he can do little worse than Dwight Gayle and Joselu have up front this season. Still, one of the pair will be leading the line against Burnley on Wednesday, and it could be their last chance to show what they have got.
In other Newcastle United transfer news, the Magpies have agreed a deal with a top-three side for the loan exit of a top talent.
