Julen Lopetegui sack latest: O’Rourke shares West Ham new manager update
Julen Lopetegui could lose his job at West Ham unless performances and results improve quickly, sources have told Football Insider.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed the “pressure is just continuing to build” on the 58-year-old.
West Ham were hammered 5-0 by Liverpool during their most recent outing, and the fans were vocal with their displeasure.
The Irons squad and Lopetegui were booed at half-time and full-time, with the Irons manager having lost their support after a difficult start to life in London.
West Ham were ready to push the button on Lopetegui a few weeks back but ended up sticking with him, but the hierarchy could still look to axe their manager if there aren’t improvements.
Lopetegui will face a tough test this weekend when he takes his team to the Etihad Stadium to face Man City on Saturday (4 January).
Julen Lopetegui’s West Ham future is bleak
City have only managed two wins in their previous 14 outings in all competitions, giving the Hammers a glimmer of hope against the defending Premier League champions.
However, well-placed sources have told Football Insider that the “writing is on the wall” for Lopetegui at the London Stadium.
West Ham may continue to give him time though as the club typically doesn’t look to sack managers midway through the season.
The Hammers are currently 13th in the Premier League table after only winning six of their 19 games at this stage.
Lopetegui’s team have struggled defensively this season, with only three teams conceding more than them at this stage.
