Julian Alvarez ‘will set the Premier League on fire’ after source’s Arsenal transfer reveal

Arsenal would have to pay a big fee if they were to lure Julian Alvarez back to the Premier League.

That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who would back Alvarez to be a success at Arsenal.

Alvarez could cost Arsenal more than £80million, and the 26-year-old has previous Premier League pedigree with Manchester City.

Liverpool had also registered their interest in Alvarez, but the addition of Alexander Isak last summer means they will not be pursuing a deal soon.

Arsenal backed to seal ‘big move’

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes Alvarez would set the “Premier League on fire” if he was to return.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness thinks the striker would be worth the high fee Arsenal would have to pay for him.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “Yes, look, I know that Julian Alvarez has been very highly regarded at Atletico Madrid.

Everybody loves him, and he saved them in many ways. A number of big games. He’s a great player. If he was to come back, then I think that would be a big move, but well worth it.

“He is quality and I think he would suit them very well. But yes, he is very highly regarded, and it would not be a cheap one, but I think he does want to come back to the UK and I think he’ll set the Premier League on fire again, and I think even more so now he’s had this spell at Atletico where he really has impressed to a great degree.”

Arsenal linked with move for Germany star

Arsenal have been linked with Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka, who could be available on a free transfer this summer.

Goretzka’s contract expires in the summer, and Mikel Arteta was exploring a late move for a midfielder in the January transfer window due to an injury to Mikel Merino.

The 31-year-old has started 15 of Bayern Munich’s 21 Bundesliga matches this season, scoring just one goal.
