Junior Firpo confirms Leeds injury absence in updated message to fans

Leeds United defender Junior Firpo marked his 100th appearance for the club with a 2-0 win over Derby on Saturday (December 7) but was forced off due to injury – and admitted he faces a spell on the sidelines.

The 28-year-old was substituted in the 21st minute for Max Wöber with the score still 0-0, just 18 minutes before Joe Rodon broke the deadlock with a header from a corner.

Wober then doubled their lead just ahead of half-time, securing all three points for Farke’s side, sending them to the top of the Championship table.

Firpo has been key to Farke’s plans so far this season, starting all 15 of his appearances across all competitions, popping up with one goal and three assists in 1297 minutes.

Fellow Yorkshire club Sheffield United have the opportunity to leapfrog Leeds if they win against West Brom on Sunday (December 8) as the race for promotion hots up.

Junior Firpo proud of Leeds United achievement despite injury setback

The left-back has found his feet at Elland Road after a frustrating start to life at the club, making 49 appearances across all competitions over the past 18 months.

Leeds fans have certainly embraced him, with the former Barcelona defender sharing an update on his fitness and expressing gratitude for their continued support on Instagram.

Firpo said: “100 appearances with this great club, not the best way to celebrate it coming off with an injury but will be back soon and stronger. We keep marching on together.”

Michael Carrick’s impressive Middlesbrough side travel to Elland Road next, with the two promotions chasers meeting on Tuesday (December 10).
