Jurgen Klopp cited as Man United work on permanent manager appointment

Manchester United are once again looking for a new manager following Ruben Amorim’s departure.

It was confirmed last week Man United have sacked Amorim following a disagreement behind the scenes at Old Trafford.

Michael Carrick has been appointed as interim manager until the end of the season, but club chiefs are continuing their search behind the scenes for a permanent boss.

Football Insider revealed on Wednesday (14 January) Julian Nagelsmann is interested in taking the Man United job if he decides to return to club football after leading Germany at the upcoming World Cup.

How Pep Guardiola has saved Man City ‘huge amount of money’

Former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider Pep Guardiola’s appointment 10 years ago has prevented there being a “manager churn” at the Etihad Stadium.

Meanwhile, Man United have made “enormous” termination payments after relieving six permanent managers of their duties since Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure in 2013.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Amorim’s exit at Old Trafford, Borson said: “It’s important you get the manager right. But clearly, they look at it and go, it’s so fundamental to the direction of the club, you’ve just got to take the pain of the very substantial compensation.

“But if you look at it, and you compare it to City over that 10-year period, City have paid huge wages off to Pep Guardiola, don’t get me wrong, and huge bonuses of course, but they’ve saved themselves by not having manager churn.

“They’ve saved themselves a huge amount of money compared to Chelsea and Manchester United.”

Guardiola has won six Premier League titles with Man City, while Man United have failed to win any since Ferguson stepped down at Old Trafford.

Man United told to appoint Guardiola-type figure

Borson insisted Man United have to find a manager like Guardiola, Mikel Arteta or Jurgen Klopp as they look for somebody to fill the role for several years.

“Stability has a lot of value, but it does rely upon finding the right manager,” said Borson.

“There’s no point in keeping a manager that’s not working. You’ve got to try find the Arteta’s, the Guardiola’s or the Klopp’s rather than some of the managers that Chelsea and Manchester United have been finding.”

Man United currently sit seventh in the Premier League table as they look to secure a return to European football this season.
