Jurgen Klopp has his next manager job in mind after Man United make move

Jurgen Klopp has a clear plan for his potential return to management and Man United’s pursuit of a new boss could be key to his decision.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Transfer Insider podcast, the Germany national team role could tempt the Liverpool legend back into the dugout should it become available.

Julian Nagelsmann is currently in the role, and will lead Germany at the World Cup, but remains a top target for Man United and could be tempted to make the switch.

That would open the door for Klopp to step into his position to lead his country, after reportedly turning down the England job after Gareth Southgate’s exit.

The Germany role will appeal to Klopp, who has ruled out a return to Premier League football, while there is also speculation he could accept a position at another European club.

Jurgen Klopp eyes Germany national team role

Football Insider revealed on 20 February that Klopp is not expected to return to the Premier League after turning down previous approaches from Man United and Chelesa.

He is believed to be happy away from management and in his current role as Red Bull’s Head of Global Football, and it would be hard to prise him away.

However, becoming the Germany national team manager is believed to be one of the few opportunities which could tempt him back into the dugout.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: “Obviously the news came a bit left field really that Jurgen Klopp’s agent claimed that Manchester United and Chelsea had both made inquiries for Klopp after he left Liverpool.

“Look, it isn’t going to happen. Jurgen Klopp isn’t going to return to the Premier League to any other club apart from Liverpool.

“We don’t know the exact timescale of it. It might have been a year or more ago that they actually inquired about Klopp, or whether they did or not.

“Both clubs quickly came out and denied that was the case.

“I think if Klopp ever returns to management it’ll be for a club outside the Premier League and possibly the Germany national team job is something that might be of interest to him.

“But he’s happy in his role at the minute with Red Bull. He was at the Winter Olympics this week, so he’s obviously not missing management too much.”

How Man United could be key to Klopp’s future

Whether Klopp is offered the Germany job will depend on whether Nagelsmann remains in his position beyond the World Cup, as he could be tempted away.

Football Insider revealed on 11 January that Chirstopher Vivell is pushing Man United to appoint Nagelsmann as their permanent manager in the summer.

Vivell is a big fan of his and believes he could become available after leading Germany at the World Cup, if offered the opportunity to move to Old Trafford.

The pair previously worked together at RB Leipzig and enjoy a strong relationship which would aid his case for landing the Man United job.

Should he opt to ditch his current role in favour of taking over at Old Trafford, it would open the door for Klopp to step into the hotseat.
