Liverpool set sights on Portugese midfielder after three deals hit the buffers - report

By Alex Taylor

Liverpool have entered the race for £13million Porto midfielder Ruben Neves, according to a report.

The Sun, citing Portugese outlet DN Sports, claim that the 19-year-old starlet is preparing for a move away from the Portuguese outfit in search of a summer switch to the Premier League.

It is said Manchester United are also interested in the versatile teenager.

Liverpool have reportedly set their sights on Neves as deals for left-back Ben Chilwell and midfield duo Piotr Zielinski and Mahmooud Dahoud hit the buffers.

Neves featured 38 times for his club in the 2015-16 season, scoring two goals and providing two assists in all competitions.

He became the youngest ever Porto captain in a game this season and despite twice being called up for his national side Portugal, the player failed to make it to this summer’s European Championships.

Jurgen Klopp will be keen to bring the versatile youngster to Anfield as Neves can play in both a central midfield and defensive midfield role.

Liverpool have already completed the signings of Loris Karius, Sadio Mane and Joel Matip in the current transfer window as they prepare to battle for European qualification next season.

Neves still has three years left to run on his current deal with Porto but it is believed that the player could be tempted by an early exit, if the Merseyside outfit were to make a move this summer.

In other Liverpool transfer news, Gabriel Mercado has decided against a move to Mexican side Monterrey and is now eyeing a move to the Reds.
