Jurgen Klopp labelled ‘jealous’ by pundit as Man City boss Pep Guardiola speaks out

Frank McAvennie has claimed Jurgen Klopp is “jealous” of Pep Guardiola’s financial backing at Man City as he backed Newcastle United to beat Liverpool to superstar signings in the coming window.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker praised Guardiola’s ability to sign the right players with all the money he has at his disposal.

As quoted by the Manchester Evening News (21 October), the Citizens boss shrugged of Klopp’s comments that the Manchester Club could “do whatever they want” given their spending power.

Guardiola was not surprised by the Reds boss’ comments and said it’s not the first time he has heard the complaints from Klopp.

McAvennie suggested the Liverpool boss was justified in his comments.

It is true what he is saying,” he told Football Insider.

They are going to be saying that of Newcastle once they get nearer the top. The bigger players will be going to Newcastle, including one or two in January, because they can pay the most. That is not a criticism, it is the truth.

You also need to have a manager like Pep who can buy good players. It is alright buying big players but they might not fit in to the team or the way Man City play. Up to now he has done wonders.

I do not think there is anything wrong with what Klopp is saying. Pep will know that, he will know he has got the money to buy anyone he wants. It is getting the right ones, that is the problem. Getting ones that will fit into the team and not upset the dressing room.

Klopp will have been told he is not getting that kind of money. Of course he will be a little bit jealous but he has not said anything wrong.
