Jurgen Klopp sends Liverpool message to emerging youngsters

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has told his young players that they can catch his attention and take a step towards the first team during the international break.

The Reds have travelled to Tenerife for a training camp while the national games take place and the majority of the senior stars are competing for their countries.

Klopp has urged the club’s Under-18s and Under-23s to take the chance to impress him, citing Ovie Ejaria as a perfect example of an emerging youngster that caught his eye in the past.

“I told the boys before the session [on Tuesday] that last year, Ovie Ejaria came onto my plate, if you want,” Klopp said, as quoted by the club’s official website. “I saw him here first.

“I knew him, I saw him playing a few times, but here having him around for four days and seeing him in small spaces in the sessions against the ‘adults’ if you want was very important for him and for me. It’s an opportunity.”

Liverpool are developing a number of young talents in their club and Klopp has shown his desire to promote several of them to the senior set-up.

Trent Alexander-Arnold, Ben Woodburn, Harry Wilson, Sheyi Ojo and Cameron Brannagan have all been given senior opportunities this season by the German manager, and the future is believed to be very bright at Anfield.

The Merseyside club only have their nine remaining Premier League games to focus on this season after being dumped out of both cup competitions in January.

Klopp has shown he is prepared to chuck young players in at the deep end of the top-flight and the Tenerife training camp could help find the next rising star.

In other Liverpool news, the club’s 26-year-old has declared himself fit ahead of the Everton clash.
