Jurgen Klopp to Leeds: Owner source shares verdict after confirmed news

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has insisted Jurgen Klopp is unlikely to be tempted to take the Leeds United job – but it should not be ruled out completely.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs and their ownerships – admitted that “nothing surprises you” in football after his vast experiences in the game.

Red Bull confirmed last week (9 October) that Klopp will take on a new role as Head of Global Soccer starting in January 2025 after leaving Liverpool at the end of the 2023-24 campaign.

Leeds are minority-owned by the energy drink giant after new investment in the off-season.

Klopp cited burnout and a lack of energy when he left Liverpool midway through his contract at Anfield, and has since insisted he is not considering a return to club management.

Klopp unlikely to take Leeds job, says Wyness

When asked if Klopp could be tempted to take the Leeds job if they return to the Premier League, Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “He’s been very clear so far that the only thing he’d come back into football for is a national job.

In particular, the Germany job.

“I would take him at his word on that. I don’t think he’d come back to the Premier League, I really don’t.
