Jurgen Klopp’s official Liverpool return date confirmed
Jurgen Klopp will officially return to Liverpool on 28 March as an assistant to Kenny Dalglish for their legends match against Borussia Dortmund.
Klopp won everything there was to win in his nearly nine years at Liverpool, as he transformed the club’s fortunes and took them back to challenging for silverware at the highest level.
The German departed Anfield in the summer of 2024 after revealing that he was running out of energy, with the club choosing Arne Slot as his successor.
He has since been appointed as Red Bull’s Head of Global Football as he takes time out of management, but rumours have emerged that Klopp could return to Liverpool as they falter under Slot this season.
It remains to be seen which team he will manage next, but he is set to make a return to the Anfield dugout in two months’ time regardless.

Klopp will be back at Anfield as assistant manager of Liverpool’s legends team
The German led the Reds to Premier League, Champions League and Club World Cup triumphs, but departed Anfield over 18 months ago after admitting that he felt burnt out.
Football Insider have recently revealed that Real Madrid want to appoint Klopp as a long-term successor to Xabi Alonso, but he would only be tempted back into management by a huge contract offer.
Even though he is reluctant to manage again anytime soon, Reds fans will have the chance to see Klopp back at Anfield as assistant to fellow club icon Dalglish for their legends game against another of his old clubs, Dortmund.
Ian Rush and John Aldridge will also form part of Dalglish’s coaching staff for the match, with all proceeds earned supporting the work of the LFC and BVB foundations.
How realistic is Klopp returning to replace Slot as Liverpool boss?
Slot carried on Klopp’s Liverpool legacy by winning the Premier League title in his first season in charge, but they have faltered in their defence of that crown so far this term.
The Reds are sixth in the top-flight, 14 points from leaders Arsenal, and Slot is under pressure to make sure that they at least achieve Champions League qualification come May.

Slot remains the second-favourite manager to be sacked next in the Premier League, amid widespread talk and rumours around his future, but it does not seem likely that Klopp returns to succeed his own successor.
Klopp is known to be happy at Red Bull and has no immediate plans to return to full-time management, so Reds fans will have to take their opportunity to see him back at the club in March instead.
