James Tavernier gives verdict on what Rangers team-mate has to do to improve

Rangers full-back James Tavernier believes Josh Windass can “go further” in football than his current spot but thinks the attacker needs to be more consistent to take that next step.
Windass has hit four goals in his last three games for the Gers and scored the opener in Tuesday’s win over Partick Thistle before landing himself in hot water with the Light Blues fans by shushing them during his celebration.
Tavernier is confident Windass can continue to improve and thinks now he has started scoring regularly he can kick on.
“Josh has goals in him. He’s a quick player, good with his feet and possesses really good ability,” Tavernier said, as quoted by the Daily Record.
“He’s a decent lad, good to have in our team and I’m very happy with him.
“He’s definitely got it in him to go even further in football. It’s just about consistency for Josh. You’ll see his performances shine out and now he’s adding goals to his game.
“It was a good match for him against Thistle and hopefully he can take that form on to the next one.”
The former Accrington star has scored 10 times in 29 appearaces this season and has created more goals than any other polayer in the Scottish Premiership this term.
The 24-year-old was the subject of a number of bids from English Championship sides during the transfer window although the Ibrox giants rejected all of them.
Windass’ Ibrox deal runs until 2020 after signing a four-year deal when he moved north with then-Accrington team-mate Matt Crooks.
The attacker will likely be involved when the Gers face Ayr United in the fifth round of the Scottish Cup on Sunday at Somerset Park after bagging a hat-trick in the previous round against Highland League minnows Fraserburgh.
In other Rangers news, it can be revealed that a key first teamer has sensationally asked to leave after the board failed to stick to their promise of giving him a new deal during the transfer window.
