Justin Kluivert, Antoine Semenyo react as Bournemouth agree deal with ‘legend’

Bournemouth have continued their wave of early-season momentum by securing the future of one of their “legends”.

Andoni Iraola‘s side sit fourth in the Premier League table after four matches and have been close to flawless since a 4-2 loss at Liverpool in the first game of the season, with three back-to-back victories.

Wolves, Tottenham and Brighton have all come unstuck against the Cherries with only the latter’s Kaoru Mitoma able to beat Djordje Petrovic in the Bournemouth net last time out, after his arrival from Chelsea.

Players like Antoine Semenyo have been hailed as “unplayable” for their performances this season as the upward trajectory of Iraola’s squad continues, but that squad also features several players who are seen as unsung heroes.

David Brooks sends message after Bournemouth extension

Bournemouth’s squad underwent some huge changes in the summer with Milos Kerkez, Dean Huijsen, Illia Zabarnyi and Dango Ouattara sold for big money, but one player has been a constant in their journey.

David Brooks signed for the Cherries from Sheffield United in 2018 and is set to extend his stay at the Vitality Stadium to over 10 seasons, despite not always “getting the credit he deserves” at Bournemouth.

Bournemouth have tied Brooks down to a new contract which expires in 2029, and the 28-year-old posted on Instagram to commemorate his time on the south coast as their third-longest serving player.

Brooks’ message simply said “2018–”, and his Cherries team-mate Semenyo responded with a comment to say: “That’s my PG!!!!”

Justin Kluivert has been kept out of Iraola’s starting XI by the form of Semenyo and Brooks so far this season, and he added a comment of his own saying: “Legend of the club after Adam Smith”.

Football Insider Verdict

Bournemouth fans were delighted at the news of Brooks’ new contract after the Wales international’s form in the early stages of the season, with one assist to his name so far for Semenyo against Liverpool.

Iraola’s future was cast into doubt over the summer after Bournemouth sold off three quarters of their backline and left the Spaniard with a huge rebuilding job, but their momentum hasn’t slowed whatsoever.

Out wide, Iraola added Ben Gannon Doak and Amine Adli to his options at the Vitality, but with Semenyo and Brooks both undroppable at the moment, Bournemouth’s new faces will have to bide their time.
