Justin Kluivert shock in Bournemouth loss to Liverpool: ‘He’s got the cheek’
Justin Kluivert left Sky Sports pundit Kris Boyd stunned with his unbelievable miss for Bournemouth in their defeat to Liverpool.
The Cherries saw their 12-match unbeaten run in all competitions come to an end on Saturday (1 February) after a 2-0 defeat to the Premier League leaders.
Arne Slot’s side took the lead thanks to a controversial Mo Salah penalty, and Kluivert would go on to squander an excellent chance to pull his side level.
With the game well into the second half, Bournemouth substitute Marcus Tavernier produced an excellent strike from distance that came off the post and landed at the feet of Kluivert.
Liverpool goalkeeper Allison was left stranded, but with the goal seemingly gaping from close range the Dutchman almost inexplicably fired off-target to the complete surprise of Boyd.
Reporting on the game on Sky Sports Soccer Saturday as that miss happened, the former Rangers striker could be heard shouting (4:31pm): “Oh what a g…! Ohhhhhh my days! Oh no no no!”
After being asked what had happened, Boyd then added: “Wow, Tavernier unbelievable, comes in on his left-hand side and just drills one. It comes smashing straight back off the post, honestly.
“It’s Kluivert, great first touch, plays it to Tavernier 30-35 yards out. He runs at Andy Robertson, comes back onto his left and just smashes it, comes back off the post and just when you think Kluivert is going to put it in the back of the net, shock.
“I’ve put him in my fantasy team and he’s missed it. Honestly, this is a… he’s got the cheek to look at the pitch, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with the pitch, what a sitter.”
Bournemouth ace has moment to forget against Liverpool
Football Insider Verdict
Only a matter of moments after this miss from Kluivert, a stunning strike from Salah at the other end of the pitch would seal the win for the visitors.
Bournemouth will have gone into this clash with Liverpool aiming to claim another scalp following their excellent recent run.
Had Kluivert taken that chance to pull them level at 1-1, they may well have had a big chance to do just that, so he will see this as a big missed opportunity.
What makes it even more remarkable is that the attacker has been in outstanding form for the Cherries this season, and in recent weeks in particular.

Many would therefore have expected to see the Liverpool net bulge when the ball dropped to the Bournemouth man, meaning this proved to be a decisive moment in the game.
After such a frustrating miss, Kluivert will now be desperate to back scoring as quickly as possible to ensure this does not lead to a blip after his strong run in front of goal.
