Kai Havertz sends three-word message in Arsenal comeback twist

Kai Havertz was previously thought to have been ruled out for the season but may have just dropped a hint about a possible return.

Arsenal have been without a recognised striker for the campaign since Havertz suffered a hamstring injury back in February

With Gabriel Jesus ruled out for the entire season earlier in the year, Mikel Arteta has been forced to deploy Mikel Merino as a makeshift number nine in their absence.

Havertz was initially feared to be out for the remainder of the season, but a recent social media message and comments from Arteta in a press conference may have suggested that the German could return sooner than expected.

Mikel Arteta hints at Kai Havertz return despite injury woes

The striker shared a video on Instagram showing his recovery process, with clips of him working in the gym and a caption that read: “Step by step”.

He earned reactions from his teammates such as William Saliba, Gabriel Magalhaes and Ethan Nwaneri who all liked the post.

Mikel Arteta has since appeared to confirm that the German could be back in action before the season ends in his latest pre-mach press conference. He said: “Hopefully we can have Kai Havertz back before the end of the season.”

The 25-year-old had become a vital part of Arteta’s side before the injury, scoring 15 goals across all competitions. He also made 34 appearances, starting 21 Premier League matches and providing five assists in 2,776 minutes.

Some Arsenal fans had declared the season “over” after Havertz’s injury, underlining just how important he’s become as the club’s primary striker option.

Arsenal continue pursuit of Viktor Gyokeres amid summer striker search

Even with the potential return of Havertz, the Gunners are still expected to target a striker in the summer as they look to improve their attacking depth.

Football Insider revealed that Arsenal are well-placed to push for the signing of Viktor Gyokeres as they are in a strong position regarding PSR rules.

Arsenal supporters have urged the club to go all out for Gyokeres, with new sporting director Andrea Berta known to be an admirer of the Swedish forward.

For now, Arteta will be hoping Havertz’s recovery stays on track – and if he’s able to return, it could provide a huge lift in the final stretch of the season.
