Kai Havertz’s wife hits out at Arsenal fans as ‘shocking’ messages made public

Arsenal forward Kai Havertz’s wife has shared “shocking” messages sent to her by fans after their FA Cup penalty defeat to Man United on Sunday (January 12).

Sofia Havertz, 24, who is currently pregnant, revealed she received death threats from anonymous fans aimed at the couple’s unborn child.

The 25-year-old Arsenal forward squandered a golden opportunity to secure victory for Mikel Arteta’s side in time and then saw his penalty saved by United goalkeeper Altay Bayindir during the subsequent penalty shootout.

Havertz’s miss proved to be decisive and United ultimately triumphed 5-3 on penalties after the 1-1 draw, with Joshua Zirkzee scoring the winning penalty.

Arsenal have since reported the online abuse aimed at Mrs. Havertz to the police and are working with a specialist data firm to help identify the culprits.

Havertz has been key for Arsenal so far this season, starting 24 of his 27 games across all competitions, scoring 12 goals, and providing seven assists in his 2232 minutes of action.

His wife took to Instagram to reveal two of the messages he received, saying: “For anyone to think it’s okay to write something like this is so shocking to me. I hope you are so ashamed of yourself.

“I’m not sure what to even say but please guys, be more respectful. We are better than this.”

Arsenal will now be able to concentrate on the Premier League after being dumped out of the FA Cup as they seek to finally get their hands on the title.

Arteta’s side will travel across North London to face arch-rivals Tottenham and try to close the gap on league leaders Liverpool.
