Man City’s Kalvin Phillips reacts to ex-teammate’s confirmed transfer deal
Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips has reacted to a transfer made by one of his former Leeds United teammates.
The 29-year-old is facing doubts over his future after being left out of Pep Guardiola’s Club World Cup squad this summer.
Phillips spent last season on loan with Ipswich Town, but could not prevent the Tractor Boys from suffering relegation back to the Championship.
Before his stint with the Suffolk outfit, the midfielder also struggled to have an impact when he was on loan with West Ham United in 2024.

Phillips reacts as former Leeds teammate Sean McGurk joins National League North side
Having suffered a lack of game time at Man City since moving to the North West from Leeds in 2022, Phillips will hope that his future is resolved this summer.
Meanwhile, his former Whites teammate Sean McGurk joined National League North side South Shields on Tuesday, 8 July, after being released by League Two outfit Swindon Town.
Taking to Instagram on Tuesday, the sixth-tier club shared: “We are delighted to announce the signing of Sean McGurk upon the expiry of his contract from Swindon Town.
“Welcome to the Mariners, Sean!”
Phillips liked South Shields’ post, showing that he wishes McGurk well as the 22-year-old embarks on a new journey.
Phillips’ Elland Road return becomes more unlikely
Football Insider verdict
Even though Phillips has underperformed for Man City, Ipswich, and West Ham over the last two seasons, some Leeds fans will always want to see the 31-cap England international make his Elland Road return, thanks to the exceptional service he provided in West Yorkshire.

The former Whites star played a key role as the Elland Road club won the Championship title in 2020 under former boss and cult hero Marcelo Bielsa.
Phillips subsequently excelled in the Premier League for the West Yorkshire outfit, particularly under Bielsa, but his move to the Etihad Stadium has not proved to be a fruitful one.
But due to the emotional connection between the midfielder and the Elland Road side, Phillips’ Leeds return has not been discounted.
However, Leeds want to sign Sean Longstaff, who would likely become a starter for Daniel Farke’s side next season, after struggling for game time in the Newcastle United midfield, dampening the chances of a swoop for the former West Ham man.
Meanwhile, Farke has been backed to sign Atletico Madrid striker Alexander Sorloth in an MOT Leeds News exclusive.
