Kalvin Phillips reacts as Mateo Joseph sends ‘hot’ message after Leeds win

Kalvin Phillips has reacted to Mateo Joseph’s message to Leeds supporters following the dramatic 3-1 win over Sheffield United on Monday.

The Spaniard was a second-half substitute at Bramall Lane on 24 February as Daniel Farke’s side chased the game, having gone a goal behind following an own goal from Leeds goalkeeper Illan Meslier.

Junior Firpo sparked the comeback, smashing home the equaliser from Dan James’ cross before Ao Tanaka’s deft header finally gave the Whites a well-deserved lead.

Joel Piroe, who was relatively quiet for Leeds, scored a thunderbolt as the game ticked into added time, ruling out any chance of the Blades earning a point from the heavyweight Championship clash.

Kalvin Phillips likes Mateo Joseph’s post-match celebrations

Taking to Instagram [25 February], Joseph wrote: “Cold night, hot performance,” with flame and blue heart emojis, with former Leeds midfielder Phillips leaving a like on the post.

Piroe simply replied with three fire emojis while Joe Rodon, who was the subject of a joke by Largie Ramazani on the night, wrote: “Starboy”, using a star emoji.

Kalvin Phillips still a loved figure at Leeds United

Supporters at Elland Road were crushed all those years ago when the now-29-year-old moved to Man City for £45million, and the midfielder finally looks to have found a new home at Ipswich Town.

There was plenty of talk last season about Phillips returning to Leeds as Farke’s squad looked to fire themselves straight back to the Premier League, but finances were a massive issue.

Kalvin Phillips has struggled since leaving Elland Road.

Those same discussions could be unearthed once again during the summer transfer window, with the Whites only stepping closer and closer to the Championship title after claiming all three points at Bramall Lane.

Finances are less likely to be an issue with big-money moves in the next transfer window if promotion is secured this term, and could, therefore, mean an emotional reunion with a former player.

The hierarchy will not be getting too far ahead of themselves, but following an impressive comeback victory over Chris Wilder’s team, it would be safe to assume promotion is on the horizon.
