Kalvin Phillips ‘will not play for West Ham again’ – expert

West Ham loanee Kalvin Phillips will not play again for the club this season.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Hammers and Celtic striker Frank McAvennie claimed that the midfielder, 28, will not get another chance under David Moyes.

Phillips joined the Hammers on loan from Manchester City in January, and has made nine appearances in claret and blue so far.

But his time at the London Stadium has been overshadowed by mistakes, with Phillips conceding penalties, giving away goals and being sent off during his brief time at the club so far.

The 28-year-old also recently lost his place in Gareth Southgate’s England squad, with a spot at Euro 2024 now very unlikely.

McAvennie believes the midfielder’s playing time in East London could now be finished after he was spotted making a rude gesture towards a Hammers fan after the recent loss to Newcastle United.

“You don’t do that to any fans, but certainly not West Ham fans,” he told Football Insider. “You’ve had a nightmare, why are you blaming other people?

“Just get your head down and get on with it, train and try and do something for the fans. He’s cost a few goals since he came to West Ham. It’s been mistake after mistake.

“You’ve got to get your head down and work. Nothing much changes, it doesn’t matter about the stadium, the fans demand that. You fight for them and work hard for them, and they will back you to the hilt.

“Doing that to the fans is a no-go, and I think he’ll hear it the next time he plays, the fans will let him know… if he plays again. I don’t think he’ll play again this season.”
