Karius sends Twitter message to Liverpool fans, states how he feels about time at club

Loris Karius has revealed he is proud to play for Liverpool after the club celebrated its 125th birthday on Wednesday.

The Merseyside giants were formed way back on March 15 1892, and have since won 18 first division titles as well as five European Cups and seven FA Cups among other triumphs.

Posting on his personal Twitter account, summer signing Karius revealed he was “proud to be a part” of Liverpool after “125 years of passion, tradition and success”.

Karius, 23, joined the Reds in the summer from Bundesliga outfit Mainz but has failed to have the desired impact he would have liked since his £4.7million move.

Liverpool’s number one is currently acting as Simon Mignolet’s back-up between the sticks, after struggling to hold down the position of Jurgen Klopp’s first choice when given the chance.

High-profile mistakes against West Ham and Bournemouth allowed Belgium international Mignolet to resume his position at the top of the goalkeeper pecking order, leaving Karius to warm the Anfield substitutes’ bench.

It has limited Karius to just 10 Premier League appearances, with his last league outing coming on December 11 against West Ham.

In what has been a turbulent first season at Anfield, Karius also sparked a fierce debate between himself, Klopp and pundits Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher.

Karius is likely to assume his place on the bench once again this weekend, as the Reds travel to Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City with the chance to go second in the table.

In other Liverpool news, Dietmar Hamann is confident this in-form midfielder can become his side’s new Steven Gerrard.
