Kasper Schmeichel responds as new Celtic signing confirmed

Kasper Schmeichel reacted to the latest confirmed addition to Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic squad ahead of next season.

The Hoops have already kickstarted their summer transfer window with the free transfer of Kieran Tierney from Arsenal, but supporters will be expecting much more firepower in the final third.

Daizen Maeda, who has been linked with a Celtic exit this summer, did most of the heavy lifting, notching 33 goals and 11 assists across all competitions, with Adam Idah, Nicolas Kuhn, and Jota supporting.

The club continue to be linked with targets and potential options, but fans, and likely the manager, are frustrated by the lack of business being done at the attacking end of the pitch.

While the latest announcement does nothing to ease those frustrations, the Hoops are beginning to make moves in the summer transfer window.

Ross Doohan signs in as new Celtic player

Taking to Instagram (20 June), the official club account wrote: “Celtic is delighted to announce that goalkeeper, Ross Doohan, has signed for the club on a three-year deal.

“Welcome back, Ross!” with fellow goalkeeper Schmeichel liking the announcement, linking up with the 27-year-old, who came through the Celtic academy.

Brendan Rodgers to push his players further at Celtic Park

Despite winning the Scottish Premiership title race by 17 points, the team still showcased its ability to do so much more in Europe after nearly reaching the Champions League round of 16.

The Hoops were just a few minutes away from beating Bayern Munich in the knockout stage, only for Alphonse Davies to score an all-too-important equaliser at the Allianz Arena.

It was an incredible campaign for the Scottish club, and if Rodgers wants any hope of going further next term, the right signings need to be made during the summer transfer window.

Rogers Celtic stats

The manager has already voiced his frustrations at the lack of support in transfer windows, and the boardroom cannot allow for the same failures, especially when it comes to the attacking lineup.

Many at Celtic have been disappointed by Idah after arriving on a £9.5million deal from Norwich City [Sky Sports], and the club has done very little to fill the space left by Kyogo Furuhashi’s departure.

Sealing the right signings will be key to the Hoops’ success next season, and while some may be underwhelmed by Doohan’s announcement, moves are being made, slowly but surely.
