Kasper Schmeichel sends message to Celtic fans after key development

Celtic goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel has thanked the fans for their support throughout 2024 after taking a step closer to the league title with a 4-0 win over St. Johnstone on Sunday (December 29).

The 38-year-old played the full 90 minutes as Brendan Rodgers’ side went a whopping 14 points clear at the top of the Scottish Premier League table.

In-form winger Nicolas Kuhn opened the scoring on the half-hour mark sending the home side 1-0 up going into half-time.

Kyogo Furuhashi doubled their lead shortly after the break before securing his brace in the 64th minute to make it 3-0.

Fellow Japan international Daizen Maeda then rounded off the scoring, securing all three points for Celtic as they march towards a fourth consecutive league title.

Schmeichel has been key for Celtic so far this season, starting all 28 of his games across all competitions, conceding 20 goals, and keeping 18 clean sheets in his 2550 minutes of action.

Second-placed Rangers could only draw at Motherwell thanks to a brace from Hamza Igamane after initially going 2-0.

The shot-stopper took to Instagram after the win over St. Johnstone, saying: “2024 wrapped with another big win at home. Fantastic from the Bhoys once again.”

Celtic will travel across Glasgow on Thursday (January 2) to face Rangers in their first game of 2025 as they seek to further extend their lead at the top of the table.

Rodgers’ side have a 100 per cent record in the Old Firm so far this season, beating them 3-0 in the first and beating Rangers on penalties in the Scottish League Cup final.
